Light Budget

The tool can be found here: https://lightbudget.heia-fr.ch/

This tool has been developed as a part of the LIGHTBUDGET project to support the designers in early-stage decision-making for facade design.

It offers a wide exploration database for up to 100000 building archetypes for all Swiss climate zones. It offers the co-relation between daylight optimisation and embodied carbon for different design options. It has a Graphical User Interface designed for building and construction industry professionals. The current database corresponds to a typical 2 story single family house in Switzerland

How to use the interface

  • drag and select the parameters or performance thresholds on the parallel coordinate plot chart

  • select the subpopulations in the scatterplot chart using the select tools

  • compare the average relative and absolute carbon emissions of selected design alternatives using the Sunburst chart
