IsoLab
An interactive model house to simulate renovation and measure their impact
This project is an interactive, educational tool designed to explore the environmental impact of building renovations. At its core is a scaled model house that allows users to experiment with different insulation materials by physically adding them to the structure. The system then simulates the energy requirements of a typical house and calculates the associated greenhouse gas emissions, both before and after renovation.
Each insulation material is represented by a specific weight or type, allowing the tool to estimate not only the reduction in energy consumption, but also the embodied carbon footprint of the insulation itself. By combining these data points, users gain a comprehensive view of the overall carbon balance — from improved thermal efficiency to the environmental cost of materials.
This hands-on approach makes complex sustainability concepts tangible and engaging, supporting awareness, education, and better decision-making in the field of energy-efficient renovation.
